About
ecoSurge Story

ecoSurge was launched by Dr. Daniela Tulone in January 2020 to foster innovative AI-IoT based solutions geared towards UN SDGs and integrated with sustainable business models. Since its inception, ecoSurge has championed active collaborations with research labs, SMEs and startups to enhance efficacy and overcome fragmentation.
Early examples of ecoSurge work include RestartTogether think-and-do tank and the Sustainable AI-IoT Panel Series, chaired by Daniela, discussing emerging AI sustainability issues with cross-sector experts. Since 2021 Daniela has been working on tools and innovation opportunities associated to the design of environmentally, socially, and economically sustainable AI systems.
Daniela’s vision on human-centric sustainable AI is reflected in ecoSurge collaborative projects, AI standardization efforts, publications and talks showcasing this immense potential.
This work builds on Daniela’s research at MIT, Bell-labs, New York University, policy work conducted at the European Commission and the UN International Telecommunication Unit, and in digital innovation.
Daniela holds a Ph.D. in Computer Science from University of Pisa jointly with MIT, an M.S. in Computer Science from NYU, M.S. in Mathematics from University of Catania, M.S. in Industrial Modelling from Univ. of Catania and Univ. of Kaiserslautern, and an Executive MBA from Quantic School of Business and Technology. Her work received several recognitions for its innovation (more in Daniela’s LinkedIn profile).
